Recently I decided to sell my Iphone and I made a big mistake when doing this. Therefore I have decided to share my story with other people so that no one else makes the same mistake I did when I decided to sell my Iphone. Heres what happened:
I was using Nokia mobile phones for the last 5 years before I decided to shift to the Iphone. I mean I just had considering all the hype created by Apple, with everyone switching over to the Iphone and going on and on about just how cool it is and this that. So following the crowd I also decided to make the switch and decided to drop my Nokia for a fancy and rather expensive Iphone. However since I was so comfortable with using the Nokia software I found shifting over to the Iphone a reall nightmare. Perhaps the biggest issue that I had was that I am a businessman always on the go and I am continuously getting calls, messages and sending files and data. So standing around and trying to figure out the new Iphone and its really cool user friendly software wasn’t working out for. Therefore after a few days I immediately decided to sell my Iphone and go back to the plain simple Nokia. Something that I understood and wouldn’t have to spend time learning. But in my hurry to sell my Iphone and buy the old Nokia that I made to fundamental mistakes. Firstly I didn’t transfer all my data. I thought I had but I didn’t. again this was probably because I wasn’t very comfortable with using this new device and the new software that it worked on. This was a big loss, some of those files took days to prepare and I remember having worked for 8 days on another job. The files were saved in folders which were not located in the same place. For example some of the files were media files and were located in a different place. Again I got most of my pictures but these files were in another folder. Long story short I had to apologize to a number of clients and explain to them what I had done. Some clients had copies of the files and therefore the problem was easily solved. Other clients were old clients and were more understanding, they trusted me and new me and were more forginging. However I remember loosing 12 new clients of which 4 to 5 were going to bring me some big bucks. That was a real disappointment and not to mention all the extra work that I had to get done in a very short period of time and at zero fees.
The second big problem was that when I decided to sell my Iphone the data that remained in the phone was confidential data that I had not deleted. This was very worrying for me because firstly I did not want my competitors getting a hold of this information and secondly I was worried about my clients finding out that I had misplaced their confidential and private information. This mistake exposed me to potentially millions in liabilities from claims from clients which suffered damages due my mistake.
In short if you decide to sell your Iphone make sure you transfer all data and then you delete all data which remains. Otherwise you may encounter some major issues.
